Reviewed are the features and
operation of the Tomtom ONE, a GPS personal car navigation system with
intuitive
TomTom Navigator software. TomTom ONE combines ease of use
and portability.
You can enjoy the benefits of the Tomtom ONE GPS receiverimmediately, thanks to TomTom’s
award-winning plug and drive navigation software pre-installed on a
memory card.
There is no need to download complicated software, just plugin and start using. TomTom ONE
comes with the latest regional maps. With TomTom ONE it is easy to find
your way from A to B!
You will notice that the new
TomTom has been given a full
make-over and as a result is much thinner and generally better looking than previous models. Tomtom is One of the better-known
manufacturers of
satellite-navigation devices. Compared to the GO 300 the TomTom
ONE has a slightly faster processor and the GPS receiver built-in. The
smaller overall size of the TomTom ONE make it somewhat easier to place
it in a pocket.
The reception quality is
excellent, often able to pick up
satellites indoors. Time To First
Fix (TTFF) will be seconds
rather than minutes as found on
the older chipsets.
The best thing about the Tomtom
ONE unit is that it runs Tomtom Navigator 5 software.This is probably
the most intuitive software available on any GPS device currently
available which makes it perfect for those people who want a simple yet
effective GPS system in their car. Tomtom’s own navigation software
works smoothly. Control of the Tomtom One takes place entirely via the
fast respons touch-sensitive LCD screen, leaving the unit almost
entirely button free.
For just entering a route and
selecting Points of Interest it is
arguably the best there is. For
most users Tomtom ONE Navigator is all that they need and want.
The Tomtom ONE comes nicely
packaged in a box and contains everything you need to get going. In
fact it is so easy to setup that it really takes longer to unpack than
it does to setup and start using it. It is recommended that users
thoroughly read the quick start
manual. Doing so will get you the best out of the device.

On the road the Tomtom ONE provides clear, easy-to-under- stand spoken directions. When you miss a turn, the system usually re-routes you, rather than telling you to turn around. Battery life.
The Lithium-ion battery has a
nominal charge capacity of two hours. In typical use the unit is
connected to the charger. So the battery life only becomes an issue if
you are using the unit outside the car.
The price difference between the
GO 300 and the ONE makes the TomTom ONE the clear winner when it comes
to an entry level personal GPS Navigation device. There is not much
else that can beat it.
The TomTom One is Bluetooth
compatable, connection is possible with various phones.
Despite the TomTom ONE not having
a so powerful speaker there shouldbe no problems with the volume.
Typically the volume can be turned down to 70% because otherwise it is
just too loud. The verbal prompts are more than adequate for the task
they have to do. Given that the TomTom ONE does not play MP3’s there is
no need to having a better speaker system.
TomTom
have succeeded in producing a low cost model, the new Tomtom ONE
package represents extremely good value for money and promises to be another excellent product.
